The Cow/Calf Operation consists of about 300 head of English-crossbred cows that are bred to Black Brangus bulls. The bulls, cows and calves are raised naturally without steroids, hormones or antibiotics. They are all grass fed and when sold, the cattle will be owner-certified that they are all-natural.
For the breeding program, the bulls are out with the cows for 90 days. This limited amount of breeding time insures that the calves will be of similar weight when the time arrives to sell the calves. The weight continuity is desired by the purchasers as the calves are sorted by weight when they arrive at the feed lots.
Superior Livestock’s agent, Mike Tomkow of Dade City, Florida, sells the calves on a nationally televised auction station.
The sold calves will be transported to feedlots where they will graze on wheat stubble or grass pastures before going on to other feed lots that feed grain for an additional weight gain.
There are over 200 by-products that come from a cow.
